Meet the Artist: Yvette Haas
Art has always been an integral part of who I am and how I perceive and interact with the world. I started drawing when I was two or three, but unlike most kids, it became a passion rather than just an activity. Because of my SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy, if you want to look it up), my mobility has always been restricted to small movements, and, as a result, my paintings have always been small scale and highly detailed. Over the years, though, as my muscle strength has weakened, I have had to continuously find ways to stay creative and express myself through making art. This ever-changing situation has pushed me to explore new media groups, as well as collaborate with others who can bring my ideas into physical reality. When working with an assistant, my words become my hands. I feel fortunate to be able to evolve; never getting bored with a style, and always wanting to play with whatever media presents itself to me! I hope you will enjoy the variety that has come from my decades of artistic adventures, and now you can understand a bit of why I seem to do a little bit of a lot of different things.
